Bettas  are absolutely beautiful  fish  personalities that make them great pets. Breeding these types of fish can result in some gorgeous color combinations, plus you can make some decent money selling these fish. Read on for some tips for successfully breeding this interesting and pretty fish.

1. Make sure to feed your breeding candidates a little extra for a couple weeks before you let them actually mate. This will increase their energy and actual desire to mate. However, it’s extremely important that you don’t overfeed! A little extra is good, but overfeeding can actually kill your fish. It’s best to consult with the experts at your local pet shop so they can advise you on the proper amount to give your fish.

2. Beta fish are pretty aggressive when encountering an unfamiliar fish, so make sure you put a clear divider in your tank and separate the 2 fish first. Being able to see each other will allow them to be accustomed to each other first, so that when you finally put them together in the same space, the introduction will go much more smoothly.

3. When  breeding   bettas , make sure you don’t have a running filter in the tank.  Bettas  build nests for the eggs, so you don’t want any movement in the water to harm these. Also, when the new fish are born, you don’t want to risk them getting sucked up into the filter.

4. When you finally put your 2  bettas  together to mate, observe them carefully and make sure they aren’t too aggressive. It’s normal for the male to nip at the females fins in order to get her attention, but if they are overly violent with each other or the female seems excessively stressed, it’s best to separate them with the clear divider again and give them more time to just look at each other before trying again.
