Keeping a luxurious pet like an Arowana fish can be so problematic. Aside from its sensitivity to almost any factor possible, they are also very pricey. With this, there is a bigger chance of you losing your money because of buying it as a pet. Still, regardless of these reasons, many are still trying out their luck in breeding Arowanas. If you would want to experience breeding one, too, the following tips in setting up their habitat can be helpful.

A full-grown dragon fish (as many Asians call this fish) can easily break a fragile tank with its jumps or with its jerky movements. Most of the time, this is the cause of its death. In that note, you can prevent this from happening if you will buy a sturdy aquarium set with relatively thicker glass shields. In this way, your pet cannot tackle down its habitat instinctively.

For the set up of its aquarium, you may add plants and other vegetations in it. Arowanas feel awkward swimming in an aquarium with just water in it. However, because of their size, they can easily knock down your embellishments. To prevent this from happening place your decors in strategic places, maybe in the corners or in the sides of the aquarium. In those positions, your golden Arowana or your Jardini Arowana cannot destroy the design you have created. Besides, Arowanas do not like plants for breakfast.

Fill up your pet’s tank with freshwater. Arowanas naturally live in streams or in rivers, and not in oceans. Moreover, since they are usually found in the equatorial regions of Asia, they love warm waters. Veterinarians suggest you to maintain your tank’s water at 78 F.

For fingerlings, ripples in the water can distract them since their senses are more focused on the movements rather than the senses of sight and smell. In that case, it would be wise to use stationary oxygen pumps. Children who may repeatedly tap the frame of your aquarium can also create unnecessary movements in the water, so keep the playful hands away from your aquarium. If, however, you have bought mature Arowanas, the ripples will not affect them anymore.

You can place your aquarium in any place in your house, given that it is not that cold for its water’s temperature to drop. For the frame of your aquarium, the rule is this: the sturdier, the better.

All of this tips coupled with your own love and care for this beautiful but sensitive creatures can help you be a successful Arowana breeder.
